Bing Search APIs retired

Microsoft shut down the Bing Search and Bing Custom Search APIs, removing a major independent source of SERP data for tooling vendors.

What changed

Microsoft retired the Bing Search APIs on 11 August 2025, directing developers toward grounding with Bing Search in Azure AI Agents instead. Many rank trackers, research tools and independent search products had used the APIs as their non-Google data source, and pricing for the remaining options was substantially higher. The retirement reduced the number of viable large-scale web indexes available to third parties. Only the month of the retirement announcement is documented here.

Timing

Announced on 1 May 2025, with rollout beginning 11 August 2025. No completion date was announced. Rankings typically remain unstable for the whole rollout window, so measurements taken inside it are not a reliable read on the outcome.
