AI Mode launches for all US users
Google took AI Mode out of Labs and made it available to everyone in the United States, powered by a custom Gemini 2.5 model.
What changed
At Google I/O 2025 Google announced that AI Mode was available to all US users, describing it as its most powerful AI search with advanced reasoning and multimodality. Additional capabilities including Deep Search research reports, live camera input, agentic booking tasks and personalised context were staged through Labs afterwards. The launch established a search surface where conventional ranked results are absent and citation into a small set of sources determines publisher visibility.
Timing
Rollout began 20 May 2025. No completion date was announced. Rankings typically remain unstable for the whole rollout window, so measurements taken inside it are not a reliable read on the outcome.
