Continuous scroll on mobile

Google replaced mobile pagination with continuous scrolling through roughly four pages of results in US English.

What changed

Google removed the traditional next-page control on mobile search in the United States, loading further results automatically as the user scrolled through about four pages. The change blurred the meaning of page-two rankings and altered click distribution on lower positions. It was extended to desktop in December 2022 and then reversed in 2024.

Timing

Rollout began 14 October 2021. No completion date was announced. Rankings typically remain unstable for the whole rollout window, so measurements taken inside it are not a reliable read on the outcome.
