Google ran the October 2023 core update from 5 to 18 October, immediately after the September helpful content update and simultaneously with the October spam update. The overlap made it difficult for publishers to attribute changes to a specific system, a point Google acknowledged. Guidance remained the standard core update documentation.

Timing

Rollout began 5 October 2023. Google declared it complete on 18 October 2023, 13 days later. Rankings typically remain unstable for the whole rollout window, so measurements taken inside it are not a reliable read on the outcome.
