Explicit fake content ranking updates
Google made removal of non-consensual explicit imagery easier and demoted sites that receive many such removal requests.
What changed
Google announced ranking and removal changes aimed at synthetic explicit imagery, including automatically removing duplicates once a successful request is filed, filtering explicit results for queries about named individuals, and demoting sites that accumulate a high volume of valid removals. It also demoted sites whose business model centres on producing such content. The approach mirrored the earlier DMCA-based demotion signal, using removal request volume as a site-level quality proxy.
Timing
Rollout began 31 July 2024. No completion date was announced. Rankings typically remain unstable for the whole rollout window, so measurements taken inside it are not a reliable read on the outcome.
