num=100 search parameter stops working
Google silently stopped honouring the num=100 URL parameter, breaking the standard method for retrieving 100 results in one request.
What changed
In mid-September 2025 the num=100 parameter, long used by rank trackers and SEO tools to fetch the top hundred results in a single request, stopped returning more than the default page of results. Google never announced or explained the change, and it is included here as an unconfirmed but very widely documented event. The immediate consequences were higher data-collection costs for tooling vendors and a sharp, near-universal drop in reported Search Console desktop impressions, which had partly been generated by automated hundred-result requests. Many sites saw average position figures improve at the same time for the same reason. Only the month is documented here, so the start date is set to the first of the month.
Timing
Rollout began 1 September 2025. No completion date was announced. Rankings typically remain unstable for the whole rollout window, so measurements taken inside it are not a reliable read on the outcome.
