Page experience ranking signal announced
Google confirmed page experience, including Core Web Vitals, would become a ranking signal from May 2021, later delayed to June.
What changed
Google combined Core Web Vitals with existing signals for mobile-friendliness, HTTPS and intrusive interstitial avoidance into a single page experience signal, and gave six months' notice before it would be used in ranking. It also said the top stories carousel would drop its AMP requirement at the same time. The launch date was subsequently moved from May to a gradual rollout beginning in mid-June 2021.
Timing
Rollout began 10 November 2020. No completion date was announced. Rankings typically remain unstable for the whole rollout window, so measurements taken inside it are not a reliable read on the outcome.
