Perspectives filter and discussions and forums
Google introduced surfaces that promoted first-hand opinion from forums, social video and Q&A communities alongside conventional results.
What changed
Announced at Google I/O 2023, Perspectives was a search filter showing long and short-form videos, images and posts from discussion boards and social platforms, alongside a "discussions and forums" block within ordinary results. The features responded to users appending community site names to queries in order to find first-hand experience, and drove large referral gains for forums. Google later retired the standalone Perspectives filter while retaining forum content within core results. Google announced the features without giving a precise general-availability date.
Timing
Rollout began 10 May 2023. No completion date was announced. Rankings typically remain unstable for the whole rollout window, so measurements taken inside it are not a reliable read on the outcome.
