URL Parameters tool removed from Search Console

Google retired the Search Console URL Parameters tool, saying its crawling systems no longer needed the manual hints.

What changed

Google announced that the legacy URL Parameters tool, which let site owners tell Google how to treat query-string parameters, would be removed. It said the tool had lost value because Googlebot had become much better at inferring which parameters were useful, and that only about 1% of configurations were still useful. Publishers were pointed at canonical tags, robots.txt and clean URL design instead. The tool was withdrawn on 26 April 2022.

Timing

Announced on 24 March 2022, with rollout beginning 26 April 2022. No completion date was announced. Rankings typically remain unstable for the whole rollout window, so measurements taken inside it are not a reliable read on the outcome.
